The Art and Sculpture Exhibition

This year's exhibit was a huge success. We had Gwyn Hughes and Renata Przynoga as our featured artists exhibiting alongside those with intellectual disabilities and over 50 established and up-and-coming artists.

People with intellectual disabilities, regularly demonstrate extraordinary creativity, insight, and technical skill when given access to opportunity and support. The Turner Prize–winning artist, Nnena Kalu, who is on the autism spectrum, illustrates how unconventional ways of thinking can produce work of international significance. She powerfully challenges assumptions about who can be considered a “serious” artist and reminds us that artistic excellence comes in many forms.

Hōhepa Canterbury is a not-for-profit organisation and a leading care provider for people with intellectual disabilities. Every two years we create a unique exhibition, which is one of our main fundraisers of the year. The Art and Sculpture exhibition gives people with a disability the opportunity to exhibit alongside established and emerging artists and gives them a space in which to be celebrated.
